Design in the DNA

In the middle of October the exiting design event New Danish Modern will inhabit the art gallery O’Space with an homage to Danish design. Partners of Aarhus 2017 will be there, when creative businesses will be focused upon.

Bruun Rasmussen Auctioneers of Fine Art A/S are participating at New Danish Modern as a conveyer of design and art. “It is obvious for Bruun Rasmussen to participate in New Danish Modern, as a large part of our business is centered around Scandinavian design. Especially in the latest two decades we have put a lot of effort into the mediation of the well-known as well as the more overlooked furniture classics. Of course, we make a living on purchasing and sales, but we are also hugely proud to present the story of Danish furniture design in an ideal way – that is a part of Bruun Rasmussen’s DNA,” Peter Beck, department manager in Aarhus explains. The business has since 1984 valued art, antiquities and furniture. “Bruun Rasmussen is with good reason mainly engaged with the past. That our design part today is so strong is linked with the high quality, which is generally the foundation for the Danish master cabinetmaker furniture. It is a pleasure to be able to value a 50-year-old chair by for example Finn Juhl, H.J. Wegner or N.O. Furniture and find that it has only become more beautiful with time. Quality ensures recycling on a higher level, and there is something special about a piece of furniture, which has been valued through generations” Peter Beck explains. At the same time Bruun Rasmussen also wants to support the design talents of the future: “We also follow the new talents. It is their products, we will be selling in 10, 20 or 30 years”.

Bolias characteristic universe and designer furniture also have a space at New Danish Modern. Bolia will decorate a lounge environment and a stage area during the event. CEO Lars Lyse Hansen will talk about how Bolia works and the thoughts behind the design and creativity concept, and how they work with art, culture, music and experiences. “Bolia is born and raised in Aarhus. There is a natural sense of belonging and a natural desire to be a part of focusing on the creative fields within the frame of Aarhus 2017. Bolia simply cannot stop engaging. It is a basic part of the brand’s DNA to be involved in cultural initiatives,” Camilla Kallehauge Møller, PR and Social Media Manager for Bolia International A/S explains. Bolia collaborates with both established as well as upcoming designers from across the world and has launched a design collaboration with the well-known Danish fashion brand Soulland, where the focal point is the intersection between design and fashion. Bolia also involves itself in other cultural initiatives such as HEIMA on Iceland, which is an interdisciplinary Art Residency for promising as well as established artists. The studio aims to inspire creative development and artistic exploration both locally, nationally and internationally. “It is an interesting way to work with the creation of design and art, as the format becomes a breeding ground for mutual inspiration across disciplines. Bolia generally sees a lot of value in merging classic furniture design, good craftmanship and Scandinavian culture with other creative businesses such as fashion and art. It creates a creative space, where design can live in new ways” Camilla Kallehauge Møller adds.
