Cindy Sherman

Presented by Museum Jorn

Cindy Sherman is easily the most influential photo artist of our time. With her shocking, self-exposing and innovative portraits, she has delivered distinctive contributions to the development of photography as an artistic medium since the 1970s.

Sherman is known for her photographic staging of stereotype social environments and fictive characters. The artist uses herself as a model in her sensational photo series, which paraphrase the representation of women in the 1950’s film world, Renaissance portrait paintings or the housewives pictured on the front of weekly magazines. Sherman constantly provokes her audience with an absurd and grotesque imagery, shamelessly using elements of horror, shock and pornography. The retrospective exhibition at Museum Jorn shows more than 60 of Cindy Sherman’s most famous photos.
