Brothers

Presented by Danish National Opera and Aarhus Symphony Orchestra
Directed by Kasper Holten

World-acclaimed Danish director Kasper Holten transforms Susanne Bier’s filmic masterpiece, Brothers, into a captivating and vivid opera. Brothers is a strong domestic drama about two brothers. The older brother, Michael, has a successful career in the military, and a beautiful wife and daughter. The younger brother, Jamie, lives a life of ease on the wrong side of the law.

When Michael is sent on a UN mission to Afghanistan and returns home after a traumatic period in captivity, the equilibrium between the two brothers changes for good. Composer Daníel Bjarnason’s symphonic sound universe is a spellbinding mixture of old and new, bridging the gap between traditional, classical sound and the 21st century’s vision of what music could be.

Text by Reumert award-winner Kerstin Perski. Scenography and costumes by Steffen Aarfing. Conductor: André de Ridder.
