SUMMER LABORATORY for young creatives

Are you between 17 and 27? Do you want to unfold your creativity with other young people? OPEN CALL: Carte Blanche, the theater in Viborg, invites young people from all over Europe to the SUMMER LAB in week 26 and 27.

SUMMER LAB is an artistic study laboratory where young people from across Europe will have the opportunity to explore culture and art for two weeks over the summer. The lab provides opportunity for all kinds of creative expressions. You will get tools and frameworks for expressing yourself through body, music and objects, and it is up to each individual whether to build, sing, talk, dance or draw.

THE LAB as part of the European Capital of Culture 2017
THE LAB consists of a series of workshops and smaller productions that over the next two years, will build on top of each other and lead to a large installation performance by and with young people in collaboration with a team of international artists in the summer of 2017. SUMMER LAB is part of THE LAB, all of which are part of the European Capital of Culture 2017.

Joining the SUMMER LAB
SUMMER LAB is divided into two weeks where it is possible to attend either Part 1 or both Part 1 and Part 2.

Part 1 (June 27 to July 1)
The first week is about testing the collective process of physical exercises, conversations, experiments and games. You will experiment with objects, light, sound, text and space to work with personal and meaningful studies of the world that surrounds us. The studies will be based on a sensory / human-specific approach to performance and installation work. We will draw on ideas and themes from philosophy, mythology and science.

Part 2 (July 4 to 9)
The second week is six days of intensive production. Based on the findings in Part 1, participants are given the framework to create their own artistic work - a solo project or in cooperation with other participants. Every morning there will be joint training, while the day and evening is free to be creative. The week culminates with a performance.

The Australian scene artist Sarah John (Artist in Residence at Carte Blanche) and Sara Topsøe-Jensen (Artistic Director of Carte Blanche) will lead SUMMER LAB.
