Shadow Life of the City

Exactly how much do you actually notice the shadows surrounding you? Explore the city and its shadows and stories at Frontløberne’s new premises in Jægergårdsgade. This unique exhibition opens August 29. It takes place during Aarhus Festuge and Aarhus 2017 supports it financially.

The sight of dusk brings new life to the city. A life created by shadows that twist the reality of the day and provide the city of night with new stories to tell. The art project ‘Shadow Life of the City’ brings new life to the shadows of the night. By the use of multiple media, artist and initiator Pernille Kjølholt and her ‘shadow hunters’ have been scouting, drawing, photographing and filming the nocturnal shadow life of Aarhus.

You will now get the opportunity to visit a different art exhibition full of fascinating experiences made of shadow transformations of Aarhus caught in the streetlight. Photographer Simon Skipper has used photography and video to document both the transformations as well as the shadow hunters’ nocturnal hunts. The audience both gain an insight in the process behind the results as well as a new attitude towards the shadow life of the city and its stories of the distortions of the night.

In a dark room in Jægergårdsgade the shadows seek shelter and invite everybody inside for the grand opening of the exhibition. Pernille Kjølholt, Simon Skipper and the mysterious shadow hunters look forward to opening your eyes to a city full of shadows, stories and life. The grand opening takes place at August 29. from 17.00 - 20.30. Local breweri Humleland provides delicious hand-brewed beer for the grand opening.
