Aarhus 2017 is looking for 5000 participants for the official opening

A party is going down when the European Capital of Culture Aarhus 2017 officially opens on Saturday 21st of January 2017 – and everyone is invited to join!

The internationally acclaimed director Nigel Jamieson is going to turn the city of Aarhus upside down with a spectacular show that needs 5000 volunteers as part of the event.

“We want to create an opening of celebration for everyone, and we invite both adults and children to take part. Not only in the actual show, but as co-creators of the event,” Nigel Jamieson explains.

Illumination will play a leading part on this dark night of January, and the 5000 participants will form part of an extraordinary light-procession that will move through the streets of Aarhus from Musikhuset and down to the harbor.

If you want to be a part of this great show and to give Denmark an unforgettable experience, now is your chance. In the upcoming weeks, European Capital of Culture will recruit participants from Aarhus and the entire Central Denmark Region.

“We need participants of all ages, and everyone can join. We will make sure that the participants will be properly prepared to take part of this exciting task,” Sine Jensen, coordinator of the recruitment of participants, says.

As a participant in the opening ceremony, the volunteers will have a unique opportunity to take part from the front row, and Aarhus 2017 encourages both families, individuals and teams from local businesses, sports clubs and educational institutions to be a part of this historical event.

“This will be a memory for life,” Sine Jensen says. “An experience like this only comes once in a life-time.”
