Aarhus 2017 and Hull 2017 have agreed on a unique partnership. As a fitting end to the exhibition ‘The Journey to 2017’ in Ridehuset in Aarhus, CEO of Aarhus 2017 Rebecca Matthews and CEO of Hull 2017 Martin Green signed a partnership agreement.

This exciting collaboration commits the European Capital of Culture and the UK City of Culture to create spectacular projects together. Projects that are international in scale.

CEO of Aarhus 2017 Rebecca Matthews is excited about collaborating with Hull:

”I am very pleased that we have signed this partnership agreement. There are many areas we have identified, on which we will collaborate. Hull 2017 has a fantastic team led by Chief Executive Martin Green, and I am convinced that both Aarhus and Hull will benefit enormously from this partnership,” says CEO of Aarhus 2017 Rebecca Matthews and elaborates:

“The theme of European Capital of Culture Aarhus 2017 is ‘Let’s Rethink’. This is an invitation to everyone to join our movement and use art and culture as a catalyst to rethink solutions to the challenges we as a society face today. So, it is important that we have cross-collaborations – not only regionally and nationally, but also globally. This makes Hull 2017 a very strong and exciting partner for us,” says CEO Rebecca Matthews.

CEO of Hull 2017 Martin Green is also enthusiastic about the international perspectives of this collaboration:

“Our ambition for Hull’s year as UK City of Culture is international in scale and this collaboration with the European Capital of Culture is the perfect place to begin that work. Whilst Hull and Aarhus have their own distinct visions for 2017, both believe in the power of culture to transform people and place and are committed to delivering an artistically significant, world-class programme that will make 2017 a year to remember,” says Martin Green and elaborates.

“This partnership will harness the creativity emerging from both cultural capitals, providing opportunities for artists to exchange ideas, create work together and share that work with the world. We hope it will also create a legacy of cultural links and exchanges that will continue well beyond 2017, building on Hull’s historic links with its European neighbours,” says Martin Green.
