Aarhus 2017 and coolness to attract more tourists to Aarhus

European Capital of Culture Aarhus 2017 and VisitAarhus participate in the world's biggest travel fair in London.

Art, culture and gastronomy are in focus when the European Capital of Culture Aarhus 2017 and VisitAarhus are participating in the travel fair, World Travel Market, in London on 2-5 November 2015.

The fair is visited by more than 50,000 professionals from the travel industry and is considered to be one of the most important travel fairs worldwide.

"World Travel Market is a unique opportunity to position Aarhus as European Capital of Culture in 2017 and to strengthen the reputation of Aarhus and the Central Denmark Region with a significant number of international journalists. It’s a chance to put us ever more firmly on the map," says Rebecca Matthews, CEO of European Capital of Culture Aarhus 2017.

The Danish stand with the slogan "Cool Denmark" is organised by VisitDenmark, and Aarhus 2017 and VisitAarhus will have a significant location at the fair.

"Even the design of our stand is indicative of a modern city with a focus on culture, and, at the same time, it signals close cooperation between the European Capital of Culture and the national and local tourist organisations," says Rebecca Matthews.

Director of VisitAarhus, Peer H. Kristensen, also welcomes the cooperation at the World Travel Market.

"Culture is a magnet for tourists from around the world, and our European Capital of Culture in 2017 is a strong card when we sell Aarhus abroad. We therefore hope to make contacts with many professional tour operators in London," says Peer Kristensen.

And the luck is following the Aarhus-team, as British Airways just announced to open a new route between London Heathrow and Billund in May 2016.

"The timing could not be better," says Rebecca Matthews.
