Socle du Monde 2017: To Challenge The Earth, The Moon, The Sun, and The Stars, is a major exhibition unfolding as a constellation of dialogues and polyphonies involving more than 60 artists, 5 group projects and an international team around one centre of gravity – Piero Manzoni and the original Socle du Monde.
Using natural forces, the Socle sets in motion the universal laws of attraction and repulsion, pushing and pulling each of the contributions and actions into a magnetic field. It composes a narrative that binds the simple concepts of identity, spirit, light, body, faeces, space, time, birth, and earth, which comprise the Manzoni cosmology and creates a complex environment of historical and avant-garde approaches.
Artistic Director Mattijs Visser leads a team of invited curators to map a vivid constellation of international artists in dialogue with Manzoni, investigating 50 years of living on the wrong side of heaven and earth.
