As they both originate from Mexico and are settled in San Diego – the border region between USA and Mexico - the two Mexican artists Jamex and Einar de la Torre know the cliché tale of “the lazy Mexican”, illustrated by “Pancho” sleeping under the cactus, a bit too well. With such an illustration, it is paradoxical that the Mexicans handle all of the manual and physical labor in the entire southern part of the United States.

In the exhibition, the De la Torre-brothers respond freely and colorfully to the notion of ‘Sloth’ – one of the classical seven deadly sins that furthermore include Pride, Greed, Wrath, Lust, Gluttony and Envy. By perceiving the deadly sin Sloth from a Mexican and global point of view, a world of interesting opportunities arises to rethink the historical notion in a contemporary context.

The exhibition is a part of the SEVEN DEADLY SINS. A collaboration including seven different museums of art and European Capital of Culture Aarhus 2017.
