"Separate Silences” (Hver sin stilhed) VR Experience at THE BIG LITTLE FILM FESTIVAL

Presented by Central Denmark Region and Aarhus 2017
During THE BIG LITTLE FILM FESTIVAL at O’space you have the opportunity to try the VR experience "Separate Silences" (Hver Sin Stilhed) on your own body. "Separate Silences" was awarded best VR Storytelling & Experience at this years CopenX in Copenhagen. It was exhibited in the NEXT Pavillion at this years Cannes Film Festival that focuses on the innovative technology and storytelling within VR. The project was selected to participate at this years Venice Film Festival’s VR Competition.

Separate Silences is a two-person hybrid cinematic virtual reality experience. The purpose of this installation is an attempt to interconnect the body-mind dualism by placing the viewer in the role of one of two protagonist in a new way through live-action VR.

The story concerns two siblings who have been involved in a traffic accident. As their state worsens, they are hovering between a state of coma, dreams and a type of consciousness at the hospital they are admitted to.
As audience, you will be invited into the hospital bed to see, and be involved, in the story from each of the two perspectives of the siblings. The experience does not only concern sight and hearing, but also attempts to involve the viewers corporeal body through physical stimulation. This is achieved through synchronized touching adapted to the story which the viewers are experiencing through the head mount. This will enhance a unique sense of presence and embodiment.

Separate Silences is viewed through a Samsung Gear VR, and created by 5 filmmakers from Aarhus who wish to rethink live action cinematic VR. The 5 young filmmakers are former students from VIA FILM & Transmedia, a filmeducation located in Filmby Aarhus.

The experience is 20 minutes long.
