An Aarhus 2017 Commission
Presented by Aarhus Theatre and Det Norske Teatret, Oslo
Experience one of the Year of Culture’s absolute highlights. We know the Norse mythology with Odin and Thor, Loke and Balder, the Midgard Serpent and the Prophecy of the Völva. Now a major league of theatre talents bring the 800 year old Edda poems to life in a spectacular musical play.
EDDA is created by Robert Wilson, one of the world’s greatest living visual theatre geniuses. Known for his collaboration with prominent artists including Tom Waits, Lou Reed and Lady Gaga, and in Denmark for shows including Woyzeck and Black Rider.
The text for EDDA has been recreated by Jon Fosse, the most influential Norwegian playwright since Henrik Ibsen. In 2015, Fosse was awarded the Nordic Council’s Literature Prize, and he has been mentioned as a candidate for the Nobel Prize.
Music composed by CocoRosie, text by Fosse and music by Arvo Pärt, transforms the Edda into a spectacular musical play brought to life by the vision of acclaimed director, Robert Wilson.
A once-in-a-lifetime experience. The show is performed in New Norwegian and subtitled in Danish.
